Fungi Uses & Problems

What is Actually Fungi - are harmful or Useful :

While some fungi do a great deal of good, some other fungi do a great deal of damage. They help us by causing decay so that rubbish doesn't accumulate endlessly. This also returns mineral salts to the earth which plants need. There are even fungi which create drugs and which are used by us to fight disease. But there are other fungi which cause diseases of plants and animals and we have to fight against them.Fungi are simple dependent plants. Fungi are also called as simple plants - Its because they don't have roots, stems and leaves as complex plants have. They are dependent because they have no chlorophyll which means they can't manufacture sugar from carbon-dioxide and water as green plants do. They depend on food that has been made by green plants.

There are Lots of different kinds of fungi, and they differ in their structure. Some fungi consist of a single cell. For example bacteria and yeasts. The average length of bacteria is about 0.005 millimetres. The big group of fungi called "moulds" range from those that live on bread to those that attack damp fabrics. Certain moulds give flavour to cheese and others are used to prepare drugs. Mushrooms are also fungi.
