Earth Moving Speed : We know that the earth has two motions. It spins around on its axis and it moves in an orbit around the sun . okay , but how fast does our earth move ?

Let us first know how fast does the earth rotate about its axis. The period of rotation through 360 degrees (One complete turn of the earth) takes 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.091 seconds.

It is this rotation which causes the changes of day and night.

When the earth moves around the sun, it is closer to the sun at some points in its orbit than at other points. The point of orbit nearest to the sun is called "perihelion" "while the point of orbit farthest from the sun is "aphelion".

The earth and all planets move in their orbit at a speed that depends on their distance from the sun. A planet moves faster when it is closer to the sun than when it is farther away. So it moves fastest at perihelion and slowest at aphelion.

Earth's Moving speed : At perihelion, the earth moves in its orbit at a speed of 30.2 kilometres per second. And at aphelion, it travels at the rate of 29.2 kilometres per second.
