Matter & Water

Let us first Look About What is Matter :

Matter is anything that takes up room anywhere in this universe. Chair and water, both take up room, don't they ? So we can say .matter may be a liquid or a solid or a gas. We have divided matter into two types:  organic matter and inorganic matter. Things that are living are "organic". For instance- human beings, trees, flowers, animals. But then, cotton and woollen cloth are also called "organic". Why? This is because, they were once part of something alive. And "inorganic matter" are those things that are not living or that were never alive. For instance iron, glass, tin, water. All matter is built of "atom". If all the atoms were exactly alike, there would have been only one kind of matter in this world. But there are more than 100 kinds of atoms. When matter is made up of only one kind of atom, it is called "element". Iron, Iodine, Gold, Oxygen are elements. And matter that is made up of more than one kind of atom joined together is called a "compound". A group of atoms is called a "molecule". When atom and molecules are packed together more closely in matter it becomes dense. And matter that has great density is also heavy like Iron. Why is wood lighter ? It is because wood is less dense.

Can matter be ever destroyed ? - No, never. It can be changed from one state to another and can be changed into energy, but it can never be destroyed.

What is Water ?

water makes up a large proportion of all living things , Water is a tasteless, colourless, odourless compound which is present everywhere in the soil and exists in the air. What is it made of ? It is a simple compound of two gases hydrogen, a very light gas ; and oxygen, a heavier active gas. When hydrogen is burned in oxygen, water is formed. But water does not resemble either of the elements which compose it. It has a set of properties of its own. Water, as it occurs in nature is never pure in the true sense. It contains dissolved mineral material, dissolved gases and living organisms. It exists in three states, like most other matters; a liquid state, a solid state called ice" and a gas called "water vapour". At 0 degrees centigrade or 32 degrees FAHRENHEIT, water changes from the liquid to the solid state or freezes. At 100 degrees centigrade or 212 degrees FAHRENHEIT, it changes from the liquid to the gaseous state. Without water, life is absolutely impossible. Life doesn't exist in other planets because there seems to be no water there. but Search is going on , to find water presense in other planets .

Water has two hydrogen & one oxygen - Which gives Chemical Formula H2O ( precious and Essential Fluid ).
