How plants grow in Soil
Actually there are many things in the soil that make the plants grow.Let's first know what exactly is the soil . Soil is a mixture of organic and inorganic materials. The organic part is the living things and the remains of once-living things. And the inorganic part is made up of non living things like rocks and minerals.Humus is the decaying organic matter in the soil. This humus separates otherwise tightly packed rock particles, thus allowing more water and air to enter the soil. Humus also provides food for bacteria and other micro-organisms in soil. Plants can use the dead organic matter. Humus is good for the fertility of the soil. There are many kinds of animals living in the soil. The body wastes of these animals enrich the soil. Earthworms turn over the soil and improve it. Microorganisms feed on particles of organic matter. This breaks the organic material into minerals, gases and liquids. These are good for plants.Moreover there are ten elements that all plants need to grow. Three of these, oxygen, hydrogen and carbon, are present in either air or water or in both. The others are obtained from the soil by the plants. They are : nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and sulfur. All these help the plants grow.
